Spark plugs are a crucial part of your car. Without them, your engine wouldn’t even start. The duration of a spark plug typically depends on the type of plug you’re using. It’s a good idea for every driver to also know the warning signs of a prematurely worn-out plug. That way, you can have any problematic plugs promptly repaired or replaced at your local Toyota dealership.

Copper Plugs

The most common type of plugs are made from copper, which is highly conductive but slightly softer and less durable than other types of material. Copper plugs tend to last about 20,000 miles, which is about one and a half years for most drivers.

Your Toyota is designed to give you a comfortable, safe, and fuel-efficient driving experience. It’s composed of numerous systems that work together to deliver the performance you deserve. These systems require servicing and maintenance to keep them working at their best. As your Toyota dealership, we want to give you some preventative maintenance tips.

Protect the Paint

It can be very easy to forget that your car’s paint will get damaged over time if it’s not protected. The paint is exposed to grit, dirt, mud, and water. While snow and ice are not usually a problem here in Kingsport, TN, the sun’s UV rays can cause your paint job to turn dull over time. Fortunately, these problems can be prevented with very little effort.

One of the best ways to protect your paint is to wash your car regularly. Washing removes grit and dust that can scratch the paint, and it makes your car look brighter already. Waxing is also an essential tool for your paint, as it adds a protective coating between your paint and the environment.  We advise waxing your car at least twice a year, at the end of spring and the end of fall.

As your Toyota dealer, we want to make sure you love every aspect of the experience, from the quality car you drive to the way you gain skills and confidence. Here’s a few tips for new drivers that can help everything to go smoothly.

Understand Your Vehicle

Before hitting the road, familiarize yourself with your car’s features and controls. Read the owner’s manual to understand how the various systems work, such as the brakes, accelerator, lights, wipers, and emergency signals. Take some time while you’re sitting with the car in park to find where everything is and how it operates. Don’t assume that all cars are the same!

Brake pads are an important part of your Toyota’s braking system. They generate the friction that brings your car to a stop. These pads wear down over time and will eventually need replacement. As your Toyota dealer, we want you to know some of the signs that you need to visit us for new pads.

Screeching Brakes

A set of pads fits into each caliper, and a caliper is positioned above each of your wheel rotors. When you hit the brakes, the calipers clamp on either side of the wheel rotors. The pads generate friction against the smooth wheel rotors, and this action brings the rotors to a stop. Each time you apply the brakes, tiny parts of the pads fleck off.

When a pad’s friction material covering has worn down, a tiny metal spike will become visible. This spike will scratch against the rotor surface and produce a loud screeching noise. The spike won’t damage the rotor, but it serves as a loud reminder that it’s time to change your pads. Our technicians can quickly and easily replace them for you.

Car paint

If you want your Toyota to look as good as new for thousands of miles, it’s essential to protect the paint. To help you preserve your vehicle’s appearance, your Toyota dealer provides helpful tips on the best car paint protection techniques.

1. Regularly Wash Your Car

Washing your car at least once a week is your first defense against damage. Dust, dirt, and insects can damage the paint job, and due to their acidic nature, tree sap and bird droppings can eat away at the clear coat and the paint. To prevent this from happening, wash your car regularly with specialized cleaners to avoid stripping the wax. Use a microfiber cloth for drying to prevent streaks and scratches.
