The Tacoma Models

The 2020 Tacoma comes in six different trim levels. The SR has 16-inch steel wheels, comes with a composite bed, and it also has tie-down points in the bed. The SR5 has rear tinted windows, fog lights, and upgraded trim elements. The TRD Sport has an upgraded on-road suspension, LED daytime running lights, and 17-inch alloy wheels, while the Limited has 18-inch alloy wheels and a power sunroof. Choosing the TRD Off-Road gets you 16-inch wheels, all-terrain tires, an off-road suspension, and skid plates, or you can check out the TRD Pro for Fox shocks, a hood scoop, a TRD cat-black exhaust, and Rigid Industries fog lights.

The Tundra Models

The Tundra is the larger Toyota pickup. It also starts with the SR, which has 18-inch steel wheels. The SR5 adds fog lights, chrome exterior accents, and a sliding rear window. Add the TRD Sport Package, which is only available for the SR5, and you’ll get 20-inch wheels, anti-sway bars for the front and back, and sport-tuned Bilstein shocks. Choosing the Tundra Limited gets you 20-inch wheels and heated side door mirrors, and bumping up to the TRD Pro adds BBS forged alloy wheels, Fox off-road shocks, and a sunroof.

The top-level Platinum has more chrome exterior trim elements, LED running lights, and a sunroof.

The Power

The base powertrain for the Tacoma is a 2.7-liter four-cylinder that generates 159 horsepower. A 3.5-liter V-6 bumps up to 278 horsepower, and it gets 265 pound-feet of torque. When equipped, the Tacoma can tow up to 6,800 pounds. When you need more power, the Tundra pulls through with its 5.7-liter V-8 engine that makes 381 horsepower and gets you 401 pound-feet of torque. It can tow up to 10,200 pounds and handle up to 1,730 pounds in the bed.

The Technology

Both pickups come with a 7-inch screen in the entry-level SR with an 8-inch screen if you bump up to the SR5. Both also have Bluetooth, three USB ports, voice recognition, a Wi-Fi hot spot, Apple CarPlay, Amazon Alexa, and Android Auto. Bumping up to the SR5 gets you the 8-inch touch screen along with satellite radio with navigation added if you have the V-6 engine.

Standard safety technology in both trucks includes forward-collision warning, lane departure warning, pedestrian detection, automatic high beam headlights, automatic emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control. Additional safety features available as options for both trucks include front and rear parking sensors, a blind-spot monitor, and rear cross-traffic alert.
