The 2023 Toyota 4Runner features impressive off-road capability with a versatile cargo area. The 4Runner can be customized to fit your needs with a variety of configurations. 2023 marks the 40th birthday of the 4Runner, and Toyota will release a special trim to commemorate the occasion. Here are four reasons to test drive a 2023 Toyota 4Runner.

Available Trims

You can purchase the 2023 Toyota 4Runner in eight trims: SR5, TRD Sport, SR5 Premium, TRD Off-Road, TRD Off-Road Premium, 40th Anniversary Special Edition, Limited, and TRD Pro. Standard features include heated power outside mirrors, roof rails, underbody skid plates, LED headlights, and 17-inch wheels. You get a hood scoop, attention-demanding front grille, and 20-inch alloy wheels on the TRD Sport. The SR5 Premium upgrades the power and heated outside mirrors with turn signal indicator integration.

The TRD Off-Road has a skid plate covering the transfer case and 17-inch alloy wheels with black accents. Moving up to the TRD Off-Road Premium adds an available moonroof and running boards. You get 17-inch bronze-colored alloy wheels, a heritage Toyota front color-keyed grille, bronze-colored “40th Anniversary” rear external hard badges, bronze-colored external emblem overlays, and unique racing-inspired tri-color striped graphics on the 40th Anniversary Special Edition. The Limited features 20-inch alloy wheels, chrome door handles, and available automatic running boards. You’ll find 17-inch matte-black TRD alloy wheels and a power tilt/slide moonroof with shade on the TRD Pro.

Powerful Engine

Each trim level of the 2023 Toyota 4Runner operates using the same engine. You get a 4.0-liter V-6 with intelligent dual-independent variable valve timing. This engine is matched to a five-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission with intelligence and sequential shift mode. You can expect 270 horsepower and 278 pound-feet of torque from this combination. Rear-wheel drive is standard on most trims, with an available four-wheel drive for better control and traction. The TRD models and 40th Anniversary Special Edition have four-wheel drive as the standard drivetrain.

Hill start assist control and an anti-lock brake system are standard on all 2023 4Runner trims. Additional performance features include Torsen limited-slip center differential with locking feature, downhill assist control, and active traction control, depending on trim level. Also available are a locking rear differential and multi-terrain select system.

Comfortable Interior

The interior design of the 2023 Toyota 4Runner blends comfort, convenience, and connectivity flawlessly. If you opt for the third-row seating, you can comfortably fit seven passengers. Standard interior features include fabric seating, dual-zone automatic climate control, and 10 to 12 cup holders. Technology features include three USB ports and an 8-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. For the Limited and TRD Pro, you’ll enjoy the sound of the 15-speaker JBL sound system with subwoofer and amplifier.

Safety First

Toyota knows how important safety is when purchasing a new vehicle, so the Toyota Safety System offers features such as dynamic radar cruise control, a pre-collision system with pedestrian detection, and lane departure alert. You can also get a blind-spot monitor with rear cross-traffic alert and a backup camera. In the event of an accident, the advanced airbag system would work to protect you and your passengers.
