Trim Levels (Exterior)
With its striking quad-LED projector headlights and LED taillights, the Prius Prime won't go unnoticed. The design of the hatchback also includes many aerodynamic features, such as side body fins, an active grille shutter, and underbody covers, which all make for an efficient drive. You can choose from attractive exterior paint options such as Supersonic Red, Sea Glass Pearl, and Electric Storm Blue. There are also five trim levels to choose from: the LE, XLE, and Limited.
The base trim is nicely decked out with LED daytime running lights, LED taillights, quad-LED headlights, 15-inch alloy wheels, and heated and power-folding side mirrors. Apart from the addition of a smart charging cable lock, the XLE trim offers the same exterior features as the LE. The Prius Prime is powered by a super-efficient 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine that works together with a continuously variable transmission and two electric motors. The powertrain provides a combined 121 horsepower and 105 pound-feet of torque and power is sent to the front wheels. When your Prius Prime is fully charged, you'll be able to drive up to 25 miles on electricity alone.
Performance
You receive multiple driving modes with the Prius Prime, which include EV (Electrical Vehicle) Mode, EV Auto Mode, and HV (Hybrid Vehicle) Mode. You can optimize the efficiency of your ride by opting for EV Auto Mode, which intelligently selects between EV and hybrid power, depending on the driving conditions. Conversely, HV Mode offers a ride that combines the electrical power from the HV Mode battery and the gas engine.
Interior
The interior of the Prius Prime is well built and fitted with high-quality materials. It is also spacious. Apart from roomy seats for up to five passengers, the hatchback offers a decently sized cargo area of 19.8 cubic feet. The rear seats can be folded flat when you need to haul larger items. The standard 7-inch infotainment system is well-equipped with a Wi-Fi hot spot, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration, SiriusXM, and Bluetooth.
Other standard features include a foot pedal parking brake, fabric upholstery, automatic climate control, and heated front seats. The two higher trims add several luxury items, such as an 11.6-inch display, a power-adjustable driver's seat, a head-up display, and a 10-speaker premium audio system. Depending on the trim, your Prius Prime may also come with SofTex upholstery, wireless smartphone charging, and a heavy-sliding tonneau cover.
Safety Features
With its impressive list of standard safety features, the Prius Prime is bound to keep you safe on the road. Standard systems include adaptive cruise control, road sign assist, lane-keeping assist with lane-departure warning, forward-collision warning, and an integrated backup camera.
