2022 Toyota Prius
The Toyota Prius continues on as one of the most efficient hybrid hatchbacks on the road. It's the only compact hybrid hatchback with the option for all-wheel drive, and it has a spacious and comfortable cabin. For the 2022 model year, a new Nightshade model joins the Prius lineup with three different color options and black exterior trim elements.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
The L Eco is the entry-level Prius model. It comes with 15-inch wheels, automatic LED headlights, heated side exterior mirrors, and keyless entry. The LE adds a rear window wiper, while the XLE adds 17-inch wheels. The new Nightshade Edition has black-painted 15-inch wheels for all-wheel-drive models or black-painted 17-inch wheels for front-wheel-drive models. This trim also gets black exterior trim elements, black headlights accents, a color-matched rear spoiler, and a shark-fin antenna. The top-level Prius Limited has adaptive headlights and the option for a sunroof and 15-inch wheels.
Engine (Power)
All Prius models get power from a hybrid powertrain consisting of a 1.8-liter four-cylinder gas engine, with one electric motor for front-wheel-drive models and two electric motors for all-wheel-drive models. This setup generates 121 horsepower and uses a CVT.
Performance
The hybrid powertrain provides the Prius with plenty of pep for everyday driving, and it's more fuel-efficient than most other vehicles. It has three different drive modes to help maximize efficiency and power for different conditions. Choose EV mode to use the electric motor and maximize efficiency, or power mode that provides stronger acceleration for more get up and go when you're in a hurry. Eco mode balances performance with efficiency.
Interior
The Prius cabin has high-quality materials and some soft-touch surfaces. There's room for five, and it comes standard with a height-adjustable driver's seat and automatic climate control. The XLE adds heated front seats, simulated leather upholstery, and a power-adjustable driver's seat. Check out the new Nightshade Edition for black interior trim elements, a heated, SofTex trimmed steering wheel, and a semigloss center console.
Technology features in the L Eco include a 7-inch touch screen, Apple CarPlay, Amazon Alexa, and Android Auto. This base trim also has a Wi-Fi hotspot and a six-speaker stereo. Step up to the XLE for a wireless charging pad, while the Limited adds an 11.6-inch touch screen, a 10-speaker JBL stereo system, and it comes with integrated navigation. Adding the Advanced Technology Package to the XLE will also get you the navigation system.
Safety Features
Every 2022 Prius comes standard with a long list of advanced driver aids. You'll get adaptive cruise control, automatic high beam headlights, lane-departure warning, and forward collision alert with automatic emergency braking with all models. Additional standard safety features include a blind-spot monitor, road sign recognition, and rear cross-traffic alert. An automated parallel parking system comes with the LE, which also has front and rear parking sensors.
The Prius XLE adds to all this with rain-sensing windshield wipers and an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and the Limited adds a head-up display. The Advanced Technology Package adds adaptive headlights and a head-up display to the XLE.
