2020 Toyota Prius
The Prius has been around for almost 30 years, and there is a good reason it is the best choice for drivers looking for excellent fuel economy. The 2020 model now comes standard with a 7-inch touch screen display, and all models come with Apple CarPlay and Amazon Alexa. Also new for 2020, Toyota's Safety Connect telematics system now comes standard. Here is a look at the 2020 Toyota Prius.
Trim Levels (Exterior)
The 2020 Prius is longer and lower than previous models. The entry-level L Eco model comes with 15-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, and heated side mirrors. The LE adds a rear windshield wiper, while the LE AWD-e comes with fog lights and different wheel covers. The XLE has 17-inch wheels and automatic headlights, while the XLE AWD-e has the same fog lights and wheel covers as the LE AWD-e. Choose the Prius Limited for the option of a sunroof and several technology upgrades in the cabin.
Engine (Power)
All the Prius models have a 1.8-liter four-cylinder gas engine that works with two electric motors to generate 121 horsepower. The AWD-e models add a third electric motor in the back that sends power to the rear wheels. This motor functions separately from the hybrid system.
Performance
The well-weighted steering in the Prius makes it easy and fun to handle. Acceleration is smooth with plenty of power for confident merging in traffic, and the hybrid powertrain has the power for city and highway driving. The all-wheel drive models have a similar feel behind the wheel, but the extra power to the rear wheels makes it more stable when driving on slippery roads. The AWD-e models also get a different battery pack that works better in cold temperatures.
Interior
The Prius fits five with a good amount of head and legroom in both rows. The cabin has high-quality materials with features such as automatic climate control and a height-adjustable driver's seat in all models. Cloth upholstery comes in the lower trims, with Toyota's SofTex vinyl added in the XLE. A 60/40 split rear seat comes standard, and the Prius offers more cargo space than most other hybrids, with 24.6 cubic feet behind the back seat.
A 7-inch touch screen display and a new infotainment system come in the L Eco along with Apple CarPlay and Amazon Alexa, three USB ports, Bluetooth, and a six-speaker stereo. The XLE adds a wireless charging pad, and the Limited comes with an 11.6-inch vertically oriented touch screen display and a JBL stereo system.
Safety Features
All the Prius models have several advanced safety systems in addition to the standard rearview camera. The standard Toyota Safety Sense-P suite includes a pre-collision warning system with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, lane-keep assist, adaptive cruise control, and lane-departure warning. An active parking assist system is available in the 2020 Prius, along with front and rear parking sensors, a blind-spot monitoring system, and rear cross-traffic alert. A head-up display is also available for the Limited Prius model.
