The excitement surrounding the Tundra continues with the current iteration being offered in several trims of six models, which makes choosing much easier and more fun. The popular SR5 model which is offered in 12 trims, is distinguished by auto on/off halogen headlights and fog lights, a gray grille with chrome surround and chrome front bumper end caps. The Limited moves up to manual level control LED headlights with LED Daytime Running Lights integrated with LED fog lights and two inches larger, 20-inch split, five-spoke wheels. The Platinum and 1794 Editions feature black honeycomb-style grilles, with color-keyed front bumper endcaps, along with chrome, heated, power-operated auto-dimming exterior mirrors with blind spot warning indicators, and integrated turn signals. Puddle lights are included, along with power-folding, reverse tilt-down seats and memory features.
Engine
SR5 trims are driven by a 4.6-liter aluminum V-8 engine, with DOHC and 32-valve cylinder heads. It features Dual Independent Variable Valve Timing with an Acoustic Control Induction System. The unit smartly generates an impressive 310 hp at 5,600 rpm and 327 lb.-ft. of torque at 3,400 rpm. Other models are powered by a 5.7-liter aluminum V-8, with DOHC 32-valve cylinder heads. The intelligent Dual Independent Variable Valve Timing system produces 381 horsepower at 5,600 rpm with 401 lb.-ft. of torque at 3,600 rpm.
Performance
Some areas where the Tundra outperforms are towing and hauling. With a 38-gallon fuel tank and an available 12-strength bolted trailer hitch, the 5.7 liter V-8 is capable of towing up to 10,000 lbs. Along with the impressive capability, responsibility is inferred with the combination meter, where the performance characteristics such as voltage, engine temperatures, and pressures are displayed. The FWD models include an A-Trac system that improves the grip on slippery surfaces. The relatively abundant power and torque supplied by the Tundra powerhouse engine are balanced by massive braking power from a pair of huge front rotors and hefty calipers. The front suspension with Macpherson strut setup and automated limited-slip differential, produce a good balance between off-road capability and on-road comfort.
Interior
The impressive interior features automatic dual-zone climate control and individual temperature settings for driver and front passenger. The Tundra seats five to six passengers, with leather-trimmed, heated front bucket seats in the Limited edition. The driver's seat is 10-way power-adjustable, while the front passenger seat accommodates six-way power adjusting. All editions include two front and one rear 12V power outlets, front and rear map lights, and convenient front and rear cup and bottle holders.
Safety Features
Toyota's Safety Sense System that includes lane departure and sway warnings, pre-collision and pedestrian detection are standard on all Tundra trims. Radar Cruise Control and automated high beams are also included. The Star Safety system that covers operations such as anti-lock braking, Traction control, and vehicle stability systems are also standard features. An advanced, eight-airbag system, anti-theft systems with engine immobilizer, child -protector door locks, and tire pressure monitoring show that there is no lack of safety features.
