Since its debut on American roads in 2000, the Toyota Prius has been a shining example and the apex of the hybrid market. Nineteen years later, it remains at the top of its game. Trim Levels (Exterior)

For the 2019 model year, the Toyota Prius comes in four exciting trim levels: L Eco, LE, XLE, and Limited. On the L Eco and LE trims, the Prius comes equipped with 15-inch alloy wheels, heated power outside mirrors, LED taillight, LED daytime running lights, and automatic bi-LED headlights. With the XLE, the hybrid boasts rain-sensing windshield wipers, 17-inch five-spoke aluminum alloy wheels, and automatic high-beam headlights, while the Limited edition touts a power moonroof with one-touch tilt feature, auto-leveling headlamps, and an adaptive front-lighting system.

Choose from one of seven exterior color options for your 2019 Toyota Prius, including Sea Glass Pearl, Supersonic, Midnight Black Metallic, Magnetic Gray Metallic, Classic Silver Metallic, Blizzard Pearl, and Electric Storm Blue.

Engine (Power)

The 2019 Toyota Prius sports a hybrid powertrain that's among the best in the business. Beneath its stylish sheet metal is a 1.8-liter Atkinson-cycle four-cylinder engine, a permanent-magnet synchronous AC motor, and a 1.3-kWh nickel-metal-hydride battery pack. This trio combines to produce 121 horsepower, 120 pound-feet of torque, and a surprising amount of fun. A continuously variable transmission (CVT) powers the front wheels. However, the available all-wheel drive is new for the Prius this year and is an intriguing option for most Prius fans.

Performance

With its proven, time-tested powertrain, the 2019 Toyota Prius is arguably the leader in the hybrid industry. The L Eco spearheads the efficiency onslaught with some slight changes in weight and underpinnings, giving it the top fuel economy of the four trims. The other three trims still have mileage near the top of the segment, especially in the city. Thanks to regenerative braking, the Prius can power the electric motor every time you come to a stop.

Interior

The roomy interior of the Prius can hold up to five passengers comfortably while offering 27 cubic feet behind the rear seat. If you need more room, take advantage of the 60/40 rear-split folding seats and a total cargo space of 65.5 cubic feet of storage volume.

Inside, the Prius has loads of amenities that make other hybrids envious. Some of the standard specs include the Entune infotainment system, a 6.1-inch touch screen, a 12-volt outlet, and power windows and locks. A heated steering wheel, SofTex seating, a wireless phone charger, a JBL premium audio system, and a best-in-class 11.6-inch touch screen highlight the other offerings.

Safety Features

With a pre-collision system, dynamic radar cruise control, automatic high beams, and lane-departure alert with steering assist, as well as other top-notch features, the 2019 Prius earns a five-star safety rating from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
