Trim Levels
The Tacoma comes in six different trim levels. The base level SR comes with 16-inch wheels, a sliding rear window, and the option for a 6.1-foot bed and an extended cab or a 5-foot bed with the crew cab. The SR5 offers the option for a 6.1-foot bed and the crew cab, a chrome rear bumper, and fog lights. The TRD Sport adds 17-inch wheels and a hood scoop, while the TRD Off-Road comes with a chrome rear bumper, no hood scoop, and 16-inch alloy wheels with knobby off-road tires.The Limited trim comes with just the short bed and crew cab, and it has 18-inch wheels. For some extra style, the TRD Pro features a throwback-styled black grille with “Toyota” in large letters and black textured fender flares.
Engine
The base engine is a 2.7-liter four-cylinder that produces 159 horsepower and 180 pound-feet of torque. Toyota pairs this with a six-speed automatic transmission and either rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. There is also a 3.5-liter V-6 engine for those who want more power. This generates 278 horsepower and 268 pound-feet of torque, and you can choose between a six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic.
Performance
Tacoma driver’s who need to haul and tow can equip the truck to tow up to 3,500 with the four-cylinder or up to 6,800 pounds with the V-6 rear-wheel drive Access Cab with the standard bed. The double cab Tacoma’s can tow up to 6,700 pounds. This is also your truck for off-roading adventures because it will handle rough terrain, back roads, and trail riding with ease. The TRD off-Road’s advanced off-road traction control makes this the truck to beat when you take it off the beaten path.
Interior
Passengers can sit comfortably in the Tacoma with heated seats as an option in the TRD Off-Road and the TRD Sport and standard in the higher trims. All models have the Entune Infotainment system with a 7-inch touch screen display, available along with navigation as an option. The cabin has a USB port and a 12-volt outlet, voice controls, and Bluetooth for both phone and audio. The Limited and TRD Pro both have an upgraded stereo system that is an optional package for the TRD Sport and TRD Off-Road.
Safety Features
All the Tacoma models now come standard with Toyota’s Safety Sense suite of safety systems. This includes a forward collision warning system with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, lane departure warning, automatic high beams, and adaptive cruise control. Depending on the trim, you can add a blind-spot monitoring system with rear-cross traffic alert, and rear parking sensors. All the trims also come standard with a rearview camera.
