Trim Levels
The Avalon has a sculpted body and athletic look with a sweeping roofline. It comes in five different trim levels starting with the XLE. This trim, like most of the others, has 17-inch wheels, and if you bump up to the XLE Plus it comes standard with a sunroof. The XLE Premium adds some significant interior upgrades while the Touring model gets 18-inch wheels, a sport-tuned suspension, and LED tail lights and head lights. The top-level Limited trim adds xenon headlights, automatic wipers, and some upgraded technology in the cabin.
Engine
All the Avalon models come with a 3.5-liter V-6 engine that generates 268 horsepower and 248 pound-feet of torque. Toyota matches this with a six-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive. There is also a hybrid version of the Avalon with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder paired with an electric motor. This combination produces 200 horsepower, and it comes with a continuously variable transmission.
Performance
This full-size sedan offers a quiet and comfortable ride without the floatiness often felt in larger vehicles. The V-6 engine is powerful enough to accelerate quickly and confidently on the highway, and there is plenty of power for passing. Choose the Sport mode to speed up the throttle response for a sportier drive, or the Touring model for a different suspension that gives it a more athletic feel. The average fuel economy in the Avalon is 21 miles per gallon in the city and 31 mpg on the highway with a combined 24 mpg.
Interior
The Avalon's cabin has soft-touch leather on many of the surfaces for an upscale look and feel. There is plenty of room for all five passengers, and child seats easily fit in the back seat. The trunk features 16 cubic feet of cargo space, and it has a wide opening to make it easy to get things in and out along with a low liftover so you don't have to lift heavy items up high when loading. The central display angles toward the driver for easy access, and the 7-inch touch screen display is easy to use. It comes with Bluetooth, and two USB ports along with Siri Eyes Free and several apps. Choose the Limited trim for heated and ventilated perforated leather seats, rear seat climate control, and a JBL stereo system.
Safety Features
All the models including the base now come standard with Toyota's Safety Sense-P package. This includes driver-assist systems such as adaptive cruise control, lane-departure warning with steering assistance, forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, and automatic high beams. The Avalon also comes standard with a rearview camera and ten air bags that include knee air bags for both front seat passengers, and rear seat-mounted air bags.
