Trim Levels
Toyota offers the 4Runner in six different trims. Starting with the base level SR5, you'll get 17-inch alloy wheels, integrated fog lights, and projector beam headlights with a smoked trim. The SR5 Premium adds heated, power outside mirrors with integrated turn signals. Bump up to the TRD Off-Road for 17-inch alloy wheels with black painted accents, color-keyed front and rear bumpers, and TRD Off-Road badging. The TRD Off-Road Premium adds the heated and power mirrors to the TRD Pro. Take a step up to the Limited trim for 20-inch alloy wheels, a power slide and tilt moonroof, and color-keyed front and rear bumpers, and color-keyed rocker panels. The TRD Pro gets a unique front grille, 17-inch matte black alloy wheels, and a TRD-stamped aluminum front skid plate.
Engine
All the 4Runner models come with the same 4.0-liter V-6 engine that produces 270 horsepower and 278 pound-feet of torque. Toyota offers the choice between rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive, and both of these come with a five-speed automatic transmission.
Performance
The separate ladder frame of the 4Runner makes it a powerhouse off the road. It also has two different four-wheel drive systems to choose from along with a limited-slip differential with a locking feature to help you get up and over all types of terrain. The multi-terrain select feature allows you to choose from four modes that change the wheelspin and adjust the engine throttle and traction control for maximum traction. For fuel economy, you can expect to get about 17 miles per gallon in the city and 20 mpg on the highway with 18 mpg combined.
Interior
The 4Runner's cabin is spacious and comfortable. The second row has plenty of space, and the third row is excellent for your smaller passengers. There is a choice of fabric, leather, or synthetic leather seats depending on the trim, and you can opt for a third row if you need extra passenger space. All the trims come standard with a 6.1-inch touchscreen display and the Entune infotainment system. If you bump up to the Premium trim and above, it includes navigation and an App Suite. The Limited has perforated leather seats and dual-zone automatic climate control.
Safety Features
The 4Runner models come standard with an integrated backup camera display and the option to add front and back parking assist. This features sonar beeping to let you know when the bumpers are close to objects while you are parking. There are also active headrests for both the driver and the front-seat passenger, and a tire pressure monitoring system. This SUV also comes with eight airbags including front seat-mounted airbags, knee airbags for the driver and front-seat passenger, and third-row airbags.
