When the weather is pleasant, it’s always nice to get outdoors to take advantage of it. In the Kingsport, TN area, you can find a number of outdoor attractions that allow you to have a fun experience while enjoying the climate.

Bays Mountain Park & Planetarium

Bays Mountain Park & Planetarium is a fascinating outdoor place to explore in Kingsport. It sits on more than 3,500 acres of land and features plenty of things to do and see. You can explore the various hiking trails for people of all skill levels, visit the animal habitats that feature reptiles, raptors, bobcats, and wolves, or learn more about the solar system in the state-of-the-art planetarium theater. 

The park also has a 44-acre lake surrounded by trails and greenery, offering beautiful views. Approximately 32 miles of the trails are also open to mountain bikers. If you’re up for an adrenaline-pumping experience, visit the adventure course for high and low ropes and a zip line.  

Kingsport Carousel & Park 

Kingsport Carousel & Park is a must-visit for those with children. The carousel sits in the middle of the open green space within a temperature-controlled structure to protect it. It dates back to 1956 and was designed by Allen Herschell. Children can ride on the carousel’s beautifully crafted animals, including brightly colored horses, dragons, and lions. The carousel is open Wednesday through Sunday for rides, which cost $1 per person. 

The park surrounding the carousel also features several attractions for kids, including a modern playground with plenty of equipment. Additional amenities include a plaza space and picnic areas.

Warriors’ Path State Park

Warriors’ Path State Park is also worth visiting. It’s a popular place among outdoor enthusiasts, encompassing 950 acres of land on the shores of the Holston River. Activities include hiking trails, a mountain bike trail system, places to go fishing and boating, and a golf course. If you’re visiting the park with kids, check out the nature education program, which has won awards for its engaging and educational content. Several campsites are available for those who want to spend a little extra time in the great outdoors. 

Kingsport Aquatic Center 

 At the Kingsport Aquatic Center, you can cool down on a warm summer day and have fun with your family or friends. This facility has something for everyone, including a lap pool with designated lanes, a zero-entry pool where kids can become more confident in the water, and several diving platforms. If you’re in the mood for a relaxing swim, check out the recreational pool, which has a splash pad for younger swimmers and a water slide.

The facility also has a concession stand and changing rooms with lockers. The outdoor water park portion is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day and features a lazy river, several water slides, and a playground.
